SUMMARY:2017 Ford Harrison Seminar Series
DESCRIPTION:#1 Starting off on the Right Foot - January 12\, 2017\n\nThis program is intended to provide new and growing Palm Beach County businesses with a coverage template of most major local\, state and federal employment laws that will impact those businesses\, as well as a brief overview of the scope and impact of each of these laws. This program does not aim to make participants expert in any one or all of these laws\; this program does aim to sharpen each participant's focus on the traps and pitfalls that lurk for the unwary\n\n. . . All New Election Year Content. . .\n\n\n\n#2 The ABC's of Employment - April 12\, 2017\n\nSo\, how do you begin? With the ABC's\, of course! At the ABC's of Employment we'll examine Applications (what may you lawfully include and what should you include to get the most from your employment application)\, explore Background Checks (why and what's involved to make them meaningful for your business)\, and educate you about Candidates for employment (how to select the best candidate for your job) and more. We'll tie this session up neatly with a sample offer letter.\n\n\n\n#3 The Fair Labor Standards Act...Where Are We Now? - July 13\, 2017\n\nFair Labor Standards Act ("FLSA") litigation continues to churn and won't settle down anytime soon. Now\, at 6-months into this new Administration\, we'll take (brief) look at where we've been and\, more importantly\, where we're headed with compensation\, classifications and the FLSA in general. Join us as we scrutinize this complex law\, develop forward themes and alert you to employers' many\, many missteps.\n\n\n\n#4 But Did You See The Bacteria? - October 12\, 2017\n\nHiring an employee is tough enough. Separating an employee is tougher and you can't make it up as you go along (yes\, there is a story behind the title of this session!). Learn the whys and wherefores of discipline and documentation. And\, in the framework of the underlying unlawful reasons for separation in an at-will state discrimination and retaliation you'll learn how best to exit an employee.\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers: Christine Hanley & Bari Goldstein
