SUMMARY:ACE Presents: An Introduction to Shaarei Yosher: A Mussar Perspective on the Meaning of Life
DESCRIPTION:An Introduction to Shaarei Yosher: A Mussar Perspective on the Meaning of Life\n\n\n\nMussar is a Jewish movement that began in Eastern Europe in the 19th century in order to assist us in our ethical and spiritual development through teachings and practices. Rav Shimon Shkop\, the founding dean of Yeshivat Shaar ha Torah in Grodno\, Lithuania where Mussar was taught to all students\, wrote Shaarei Yosher\, a book dealing with how to resolve religious doubt. The introduction to the book presents a global view of life and its purpose from a Mussar-based perspective. In this course\, we will study Rav Shkops' illuminating and insightful teachings in this introduction in order to better understand our mission in life\, and how holiness\, self-sufficiency\, and generosity are interrelated.\n\n\n\nInstructor: Barry Horowitz is a local physician and has been a Temple Israel member for almost 20 years. He has studied and practicied Mussar for several years and is a graduate of the Mussar Institute's Manchim course\, which teaches how to facilitate a Mussar group. For the past four years\, Dr. Horowitz has facilitated a similar course of study.\n\n\n\n Mondays\, Oct 19- Nov 2\; 7:00-8:00pm\n\n Free to Members of Participating Temples\n\n $32/Member\; $48/Guest\; $15/Class
