O'Brien Professor of Philosophy at theUniversity of Notre Dame.\nDr. Plantinga’s lecture titled Science and Religion: Where the Conflict Really Lies is free and open to the public Monday\, Oct. 17\, at 7:30 p.m. in the University’s DeSantisFamily Chapel\, 300 Okeechobee Blvd.\, West Palm Beach.	\n\nDr. Plantinga will discuss the alleged conflict between the scientific theory of evolution and Christian theology. He will argue that\, properly understood\, they are not at odds. The true conflict is not between religion and science\, but rather between naturalism and science. \n\nDr. Plantinga is recognized as one of the most important andinfluential philosophers of the 20th and 21st centuries. His publications cover a wide variety of fields\, but his most enduring contributions have been in metaphysics\, epistemology\, philosophy of religion and Christian apologetics. Formerly the John A. O'Brien Professor of Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame\, Dr. Plantinga is a Christian and known for applying the methods of analytic philosophy to defend orthodox Christian beliefs.\n\nDr. Plantinga is the author of a number of books\, including God and Other Minds (1967)\, The Nature of Necessity (1974)\, and the “warrant” series culminating in Warranted Christian Belief (2000). He has delivered the Gifford Lectures three times and was described by Time magazine in 1980 as “America’s leading orthodox Protestant philosopher of God.” \n\nThis lecture will preview his newest book\, Where the Conflict Really Lies: Science\, Religion\, andNaturalism\, scheduled to be released in November. \n\nDr. Plantinga served as president of the American Philosophical Association\, Western Division (1981-1982) and as president of the Society of Christian Philosophers (1983-1986). He has honorary degrees from Glasgow University (1982)\, Calvin College (1986)\, North Park College (1994)\, the Free University of Amsterdam (1995)\, Brigham Young University (1996) and Valparaiso University (1999).  He was a Guggenheim Fellow (1971–1972) and elected a Fellow in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1975. \n\nIn addition to his public lecture\, Dr. Plantinga will speak at chapel and in classes at Palm Beach Atlantic.\n\nPalm Beach Atlantic University is a private\, independent university offering undergraduate\, graduate and professional degrees\, with campuses in West Palm Beach\, Orlando and Wellington.
