DESCRIPTION:In an effort to keep the PBDA parent community informed of current trends in learning\, psychology\, technology and more\, the PBDA On Topic parenting series invites both current and prospective families\, as well as members of the Palm Beach County community\, for a morning of discussion and continued education.\n\n\n\nJoin Palm Beach Day Academy on Wednesday\, November 13 at 8:15am on our Lower Campus in the Fisher Media Center as we welcome Dr. Jim Forgan of Forgan Educational Services for a discussion on how to help our children manage stress. \n\n\n\nJim Forgan is a licensed school psychologist and author of "Stressed Out! Solutions to Help Your Child Manage and Overcome Stress" with a long history of testing and treating children. Noticing that faculty\, parents and students all seem to be experiencing increasing levels stress which can have a negative effect on academic achievement and well-being\, Forgan asks us to consider this data:\n\n\n\n- According to the Centers for Disease Control\, 7.1% (~ 4.4 million) of children in the United States are officially diagnosed with anxiety disorder. \n\n- The peak age for children identified with stress is age 11. \n\n- There are concealed effects of stress as 1 in 3 children with anxiety also have behavior problems. \n\n\n\nForgan's book\, named the 2018 book of the year by the National Association of Gifted Children\, features stress management solutions that can be implemented by even the busiest parents and teachers.
