SUMMARY:YPOP 411: What Motivates People to Save\, Spend\, or Share their money? Making WISE choices from lessons learned~!
DESCRIPTION:YPOP 411: Come hear about the neuro-psychology of motivation around how the media influences our buying\, spending\, investing\, and donation decisions we make around the money we earn.\n\n\n\nThis seminar addresses the behavioral biases and influences in all of us when facing decisions with uncertain outcomes. The goal is to inform the audience on the timely subject of how our digitally connected lives affect decision making in general and investment decisions specifically.\n\n \n\nContinuous connection has numerous benefits but also some significant hidden costs\, many of which affect our decision making. This seminar will focus on how to avoid our most common cognitive biases and spot neuro-marketing techniques many companies use to guide our decision making.\n\n\n\nThe material is a lighthearted interpretation of a serious subject. It is specifically designed to be delivered over a meal with no handouts and a PowerPoint presentation emphasizing pictures over words. It will appeal to all levels of investment knowledge and time will be allocated for questions and answers.\n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker Paul Ferwerda\, CFA\; Paul serves as Portfolio Manager and investment committee member for Wilbanks Smith & Thomas\, representing the firm out of Richmond\, Virginia. Prior to joining WST\, he spent over 28 years at Thompson Siegel & Walmsley\, where his responsibilities included investment analysis\, marketing\, client service and portfolio management. Paul began his career at AmSouth Bank\, where he spent five years and held similar responsibilities.\n\n\n\nPaul graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and earned an M.B.A. from Duke University. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of CFA Society Virginia.\n\n\n\nPaul has extensive public speaking experience over his 37 year career. He has presented to thousands of financial advisors\, accountants\, investors and general audiences throughout the country. He believes in adding value to a subject in a thought provoking and entertaining manner using every day examples to explain financial market complexities.
