Description

Join us Wednesday, March 12 for our monthly Silver Science Day!

Taking place on the second Wednesday of every month from 2-5pm guests 62 and older can enjoy an afternoon at the South Florida Science Center.  Learn from guest presenters on various topics, view a planetarium show and interact with over 50 educational exhibits.

March’s guest speaker is Mary Crider from the Arthur R. Marshall Foundation for the Everglades. Mary will lead a discussion on Everglades Restoration “A Tool for countering Seal Level Rise”.

About the speaker:

Originally from Georgetown, Texas, Mary was first inspired to participate in the protection of the environment while earning her B.S. in Marine Biology and Environmental

Mary Crider

Sciences from Nova Southeastern University. In May 2012, Mary received her Masters in Environmental Sciences from Florida Atlantic University with a focus on human/environmental interactions. She is a graduate of the 2012 Marshall Foundation summer intern program and joined the staff as an education associate in August 2012. As a member of the education department, Mary enjoys teaching pre-K-college students and the community about this unique Everglades system to encourage the development of stewards of this life-giving habitat. Since sea level rise will impact the Everglades this century, her curriculum focus this past six months has been on increasing student and community awareness of the causes, effects, and potential adaptations to sea level rise in South Florida.  She also works with John Marshall as co-chair of the summer internship program to plan their activities and research projects.

Admission for seniors 62 and older is $7 and includes a free planetarium show at 3 or 4pm.
